Two-days Tour

Two-days Tour

It is difficult to get to know Kars and Çıldır in two days but still possible

After getting off the plane early in the morning at Harakani Airport, pick up the rental car you had arranged earlier. Park the car close to Kümbet Mosque at the skirts of Kars Castle located at the city centre. After visiting Kümbet Mosque (a.k.a Twelve Apostle Church) and Evliya Mosque next to it, have a stroll towards the river. After observing the historical stone bridge and baths, follow the route towards Kars Castle. Do not miss the chance of taking pictures. At that point you can choose either 1. driving up to Kars Castle – this takes walking a while, or 2. taking a 20-30-minute stroll towards downtown, the square made between Ordu and Atatürk boulevards to observe stone buildings that are in use as the town hall and the children’s library. Then drive to and visit Fethiye Mosque. Then comes the Ruins of Ani at a 45-minute drive. Do not miss the churches, the valley at the Armenia border and the first Turkish mosque. Finally, start your travel towards Lake Çıldır. Do not miss the landscape on the road. The vast steppes are nothing like you can find anywhere else. You may meet a pack of wolves or some foxes. You are welcome to our Lodge in the evening to have a good night sleep.

In the morning, after having your breakfast of Kars gruyere, honey and “kete” with strong, fresh-brewed tea, visit Lake Çıldır. In spring and summer, you might enjoy going there on foot, too. That choice might be difficult in winters because of the cold weather. You have many options for recreation at the lake for all seasons. You can check those options at our web site. But we do not recommend spending your whole day by the lake. Do not leave Çıldır without seeing the Devil’s Castle. You can drive up to 400-meter distance to the Castle. Then you are to continue on foot. Winters make difficult to walk this part. But do not be discouraged. You can choose to take the road spread towards the Georgian border by car and stop at the Kurtkale Pass. You might like to behold the valley and Devil’s Castle spreading down there. In the evening, your home waits for you at our lodge. After dinner, you might enjoy our village exhibition, if organized, watch Anatolian bards (aşık) to perform and play board games. We believe you would not be eager to leave in the next morning. We hope to see you soon
